Petcare through their lifetime
Here at Arena vets we care for pets from puppies through adulthood and right through their senior years with the aim of keeping a high quality of life throughout.
For most pets, their age does not stop them from living life to the fullest, nor should it as there are so many things we can do for them to make sure that they enjoy retirement.

The Factual Part
There are many age charts that you will find online and in books but the general rule is that dogs age 5-7 years per one human year.
Cats live longer (and have nine lives) so they are closer to 5 years per one human year.
When your dog or cat is one year old – they are the equivalent of a human teenager
(without the snapchat obsession)
Almost everything that they will experience in their senior years can be managed so that it will not have a negative impact on their daily lives.
The most common things that we see are treatable or manageable so do not be afraid to ask us anything.
Signs of Ageing:
- Joint pain
- Dental problems
- Skin, hair or nail issues
- Obesity
- Urinary issues
- Decrease in Mobility
- Decrease in Appetite
- Muscle loss

We have just touched on the most common signs, but all of these can be managed quite easily and affordably through exercise, change of diet, annual dental cleaning, blood testing, dietary supplements, grooming etc.
Prevention is better than cure so if you are interested in finding out more on these topics please give us a call.
Our senior pet consults will be available to book from October 1st.
